2004 Race Summary |
On 4.16.04 the second annual RDR
was held on the CMU Track. A large turnout was rewarded
with gorgeous, sunny weather. As the starting time approached,
the 50 runners anxiously waited as
Steven Rudich rolled the first of the ENORMOUS FUZZY DICE - a
two. The runners breathed a sigh of relief and anticipated
a short race. Many started out quite quickly - with the leader
running the first lap in 67 seconds! Very quickly, the second
die was rolled, and with a gasp, it turned up a six...
Quickly adjusting, many runners slowed their pace and settled in for
the long haul - painfully giving up all hopes of a short race.
The field began to spread and by the time the bell lap rang,
Steve Back had a 5 second lead on the field and cruised towards
home uncontested. However, the team and student/advisor
competitions were yet to be decided. Electical Engineering
put in a dominant performance in dethroning the reigning theory
champions. And Adrian Perrig and Jonathon McCune won a
very hotly contested student/advisor competition that featured 4
teams within 20 points of each other. |
